Myf Powell
Teacher
Myf is a graduate of the Bachelor of Arts in Performance Studies from Victoria University in 1992. After finishing her BA, she traveled America and Europe, eventually settling in London, where she completed her Masters in Text and Performance at RADA and Kings College London.
She has written, performed, directed and produced her own and collaborative pieces in Melbourne and the UK, including taking an original work to the Edinburgh Festival and a site specific work on the Thames Riverside in London for her Masters dissertation. She has worked in a variety of arenas, from the traditional at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden to the contemporary at the Southwark Playhouse.
Myf has taught both secondary and tertiary drama and theatre studies in Melbourne and the UK. As well as drama, she has had an active life in the music industry, working in Music Publishing, as well as a singer, songwriter and musician.
In 2005 Myf has been busy directing the Squeaky Broads in ‘Face the Music’, who performed to a sell out audience at Chapel off Chapel in February, and the City of Voices momentous ‘Back to our Roots’ at Gasworks Theatre in September. Currently she is Artistic Director of the City of Voices Community Theatre, a program of PMNC. She has also lectured in Performance Project at Victoria University.
